Unwritten Laws Proven by Experience and Time
Airsoft is not just about strategy, gear, and radio discipline.
It also includes a set of unwritten rules that reveal themselves at every event,
regardless of the scenario, side of the conflict, or level of preparation.
Below are 44 features of airsoft noted in real games and milsim events.
They can be approached with humor, but ignoring them is not recommended.
Tactics and the Enemy
- The enemy attacks in two scenarios — when you are prepared and when you are not.
- There are always more enemies than you think.
- If you see the enemy — they can see you.
- If you don’t see the enemy — they are likely seeing you.
- One opponent is not enough, two is already too many.
- If the enemy retreats — they are probably just regrouping.
- The enemy never falls into a trap that you set.
- If you’ve entered the enemy's rear and no one noticed — you might have just walked into your own lines.
Team and Interaction
- Teamwork allows someone else to take 'your' bullet.
- Friendly fire is always more accurate.
- When in doubt — send the rookies forward.
- You should worry when you are in enemy territory and can't see them.
- The radio will stop working exactly when you need to call for backup.
- Reconnaissance always brings misinformation.
Weapons, Ammunition, and Equipment
- There are never enough rounds in the magazine.
- If your opponent runs out of ammunition — they will still have a spare magazine.
- If you run out of ammo — your opponent will have enough until next Christmas.
- The more expensive the weapon, the more likely it is to malfunction.
- The weapon will fail at the moment you need it the most.
- The most accurate bullet will veer off to the right before hitting the target.
Grenades, Mines, and 'Surprises'
- It doesn't matter who threw the grenade — it will hit you anyway.
- A grenade that should explode in 5 seconds will go off in an hour.
- The last grenade will always fail to detonate.
- There is always a chance of stepping on a mine.
- The exception proves the rule and ruins the plan.
Gear and Personal Equipment
- Gear always weighs more than you think it will.
- When you put on clean camo, you will inevitably fall in the mud.
- It doesn't matter what shoes you have — they will still rub your feet.
- It doesn't matter what shoes you have — they will still fall apart.
- If you don’t bring goggles — a branch will hit you in the eye.
- If you bring goggles — they will fog up, and you will run into a tree.
- If you bring a compass — you will definitely get lost.
Terrain, Weather, and Nature
- It doesn’t matter which way you have to go — you will still have to climb.
- If the battle starts in good weather, it will get worse by the middle.
- If the battle starts in bad weather, it will get even worse by the middle.
- If there are no mosquitoes in the woods — then they will show up soon.
- If there are mosquitoes in the woods — you can be sure you are their main course.
- If there are no ants in the woods — you will still have plenty in your shoes.
- No matter where you hide — there will always be the largest mud puddle.
- No matter where you hide — there will always be thorns.
Camouflage and 'Field Karma'
- No matter how well you camouflage — you will never be a bush.
- If you camouflage well — someone will step on your sore toe.
- If everything is going really well — you are probably walking into an ambush.
- Whatever you do — you will still get shot. Even if you did nothing.
Conclusion
These rules are not written in any regulations,
but every milsim fighter learns them after their first serious game.
Remember them —
and you won’t become immortal,
but at least you will be morally prepared.
